Spartans rip Fondy 43-15 for first win of season!

The West Bend West Spartans 5th Grade Basketball team won its first game ever defeating Fond du lac in the closing game of the Horicon Boys and Girls Club Tounament last Saturday. Brad Rindfleisch (10 pts, 9 reb) and Micheal Frei (10 pts, 4 asst) led the West squad on offense but it was the defensive effort that led to the big victory. Fond du lac had a tough time shooting because of the relentless team effort by the Spartans to shut down the Fondy inside game. The Duening boys, Andrew and Jake, each scored 6 points apiece while Derek Hall (5 pts, 5 reb)and Kyle Krier (4 pts, 4 reb) had solid games as well. The team now looks forward to its next tournament in Appleton in two weeks.

Spartans lose tight one to Beaver Dam

The West Bend West Spartans 5th Grade Basketball team lost its second close game of the season 23-21 to a tough Beaver Dam team Saturday in the Horicon Boys and Girls Club Invitational Tournament. Michael Frei and Derek Hall led the way offensively with seven and five points respectively. Andrew Duening and Kyle Krier also chipped in with four points each and Brad Rindfleisch was strong on the boards coming away with six rebounds. For the second game in a row the Spartans demise was poor shooting from the free-throw line. After going 0-6 from the charity stripe in the opener, the young Spartans made only three of seventeen in a game that could have been easily won if they could have made even 35% of their foul shots. Next up is the Fond du lac team. Hopefully West can get their first win of the year.

West opens season with tough loss

The West Bend West Spartans 5th Grade Basketball team played their first game ever last weekend against a team from Watertown in the Horicon Boys and Girls Club Invitational. Our boys played hard but when it was all done and said, Watertown walked away with a 28-22 victory. Watertown did have the advantage of playing in two tournaments earlier in the season but West had it's chances only to boys fall short as they were unable to make a single shot from the line down the stretch. Andrew and Jake Duening led the way offensively with each scoring six points and Andrew also chipped in with seven rebounds. Kyle Krier and Devin Ziarkowski also played well with each tallying four points and three rebounds. Unfortunately West will have to wait for its next game for an opportunity to get into the win column.
